The Future of Work in the EU

Arrangementsbeskrivelse

Joins us for an evening of discussion with experts and candidates for the European Parliament Elections!

When: Thursday, 4th of April, 18.00-19.00
Where: Restaurant Frederiksberg Raadhuskælder, Smallegade 1, 2000 Frederiksberg

On the one hand, Europe is facing demographic changes with a rapidly aging population and low birth rates. Pensioners are expected to account for about one third of the EU population by 2050. This means increased demand for health care and social services, lower productivity and higher public expenditures.

How do we secure Europe as an attractive choice for third country nationals? What perspectives are relevant under the common legal framework, including the EU long-term resident, the EU Blue Card and the Single Permit, and how can they be improved? And how does the green transition change the needs of the European workforce?

On the other hand, the EU Citizenship Directive gives effect to the right which EU law provides to all EU citizens and their family members of any nationality to move, reside, and exercise economic activities if they so choose on the territory of any EU Member State.

The right to move and reside anywhere in the EU is a right that straddles two of the four fundamental freedoms of the European Union—free movement of persons and services.

Nevertheless, challenges remain: barriers to free movement for EU citizens and their family Members as well as discriminatory restrictions to free movement are not uncommon. Moreover, abuse of rights and refusals of entry and residence rights, in addition to expulsions are also contested.

How do we improve Europe’s attractiveness for labour migration as regards third country nationals? And how do we, on the other hand, improve conditions for all workers  in the EU?
